How To Use Soloshot Camera

Topic: Soloshot 3 - Setup for 100% success & How I lock it & Multiple tags  (Read 6108 times)

Hi,

And then after much frustration and disappointed I figured out how to go my Soloshot iii working every fourth dimension.  Seriously I was lucky to get 1 out 4 where whatever of my rides were captured, and now I have a couple dozen sessions and counting where ALL of my rides have been captured.  As well took me a couple tries to go the multiple tags working and now information technology's all expert - this is a rad feature - going out with buddies and having the SS3 record all of us - fashion absurd!

I hope this helps!  Creek I hope you lot endeavour this, I desire to see your SS3 working everytime and see your ripping footage!

And here is how I lock mine, also my weather solution, and extending battery life:

I made a list and put links to the locks and the gear I use here:
https://clayisland.com/soloshot3

Clay!

This is crawly. Thanks for taking the time to share the cognition!

ok to recap the steps:

i. take solo shot and tag down to the waters edge. ability on.
2. leave the tag with your board at waters border
iii. take soloshot to wherever you are going to set up up the shot
4. calibrate from there

is that correct? stoked to try!

Peachy video Dirt!  Cheers!!!!

I've had repeated (100% success) since purchase this March.  I of the early tips I gleamed was to turn both tag and base on the minute I get the beach (correct at the my truck in the parking lot.....sometimes I relocate the base unit/photographic camera a few hundred feet on the beach... sometimes not) in social club to warm up the units.  I've done this routinely while I suit up and mess effectually which takes 5-10 minutes .  And then I walk my lath/paddle/tag down to the surf and walk dorsum to the base unit to initiate calibration.  Equally the unit spins/cycles/etc. (via claibration) I mosey on back to my lath/paddle/tag and put my tag on and walk dorsum and forth forth the waterline a few hundred feet away for a minute or two.  Often times the photographic camera locks in the minute I first walking back and forth......easy breezy. I pick up the vivid led green tracking calorie-free and its often locked in for the elapsing of my i.5-two hr session.  Water/tight and and Water/medium piece of work beautifully.

Anxiously awaiting more of your, Creek, and others vid'due south!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent breakup of the SOLOSHOT3 and it's effectively points. A+ try. Funny how all that is my caput as well! Information technology'due south an avant-garde slice of gear that takes a chip of technical know how and skill to get right every time. I too institute "Fastest" in multi to be unpredictable. But I didn't want my buddy having to mess w/the buttons today. He lives pretty far inland and wanted to make sure he scored. Next time information technology's button press. And I also discovered the initialize nearly water so elevate procedure. I was frustrated for yous a few months agone when it kept declining (Yous too, Creek).

One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

Clay!

This is awesome. Thanks for taking the time to share the noesis!

ok to epitomize the steps:

i. take solo shot and tag down to the waters edge. power on.
2. leave the tag with your lath at waters edge
3. accept soloshot to wherever you are going to set up the shot
iv. calibrate from there

is that correct? stoked to endeavor!

Aye!  That has worked for me, both leaving the tag at waters edge, and taking the tag upwardly to where the base is while placing the tag around 30-50 anxiety abroad from base and calibrating.  Equally I understand it, tag needs to exist at least 30 anxiety away from base.  Crucial is INITIALIZE base at/most body of water level, and then calibrate wherever information technology will exist stationed.

GREAT video Clay!  Thank you!!!!

I've had repeated (100% success) since buy this March.  1 of the early on tips I gleamed was to plow both tag and base of operations on the minute I get the beach (right at the my truck in the parking lot.....sometimes I relocate the base of operations unit/camera a few hundred feet on the beach... sometimes not) in social club to warm upwardly the units.  I've done this routinely while I suit upwardly and mess effectually which takes v-10 minutes .  And so I walk my board/paddle/tag down to the surf and walk back to the base of operations unit to initiate scale.  As the unit of measurement spins/cycles/etc. (via claibration) I mosey on back to my board/paddle/tag and put my tag on and walk back and forth forth the waterline a few hundred feet away for a infinitesimal or two.  Often times the photographic camera locks in the minute I start walking back and forth......easy breezy. I pick up the vivid led light-green tracking light and its often locked in for the duration of my 1.5-2 hr session.  Water/tight and and Water/medium work beautifully.

Anxiously awaiting more of your, Creek, and others vid's!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best,

Right on and glad to hear it!

Back up has told me Non to do a walk effectually, and to only paddle straight out after static calibration is consummate.  So I have stopped doing the walk around and it works every time.

I am also bummed to hear Creek struggle with his SS3 and promise this helps him get information technology upwardly and running.

Excellent breakdown of the SOLOSHOT3 and information technology'due south finer points. A+ try. Funny how all that is my head too! Information technology'southward an advanced piece of gear that takes a bit of technical know how and skill to become correct every fourth dimension. I also establish "Fastest" in multi to be unpredictable. Just I didn't want my buddy having to mess w/the buttons today. He lives pretty far inland and wanted to make sure he scored. Next time it'south button press. And I also discovered the initialize near water then elevate process. I was frustrated for you a few months agone when information technology kept failing (You also, Creek).

Yeah cookie, I hear you man!  Truth be told I thought y'all might be some possessed sorcerer with voodoo ability over the SS3!  I didn't understand how yous liked and evangelized soloshot.  Now I get it!  At present that I take it wired it'southward super easy to setup and go surf!

Dandy video Clay.... well filmed, narrated and much appreciated!
Excellent info and directions.
I liked the security vid as well.

I appreciate everyone wishing me well with my SoloShot... only I just don't know how much more time I can invest in it.
I'd say it adds an average of 5 hours to every session, betwixt set-up, breakdown, download, recharge, format SD, review video.... only to be totally let down with almost EVERY session for vi months.

I updated it again concluding night, so peradventure ane more shot, merely I am pissed.
5 months of travel video on entire The states E Coast and Thailand pretty much wasted.

After multiple fails in Thailand, I simply used information technology as a fixed manual camera.
My last session in Thailand, was at a beachbreak, where "Fixed" wasn't an option..... and information technology actually worked, so that is awesome.

As to the "Body of water level" issue.... all sessions in Florida and Thailand were set up at beach level.... maybe five' of tiptop.
I was never virtually metallic or electronic gear.
The cam always followed me perfectly into the h2o, at which point, it simply stared at the shorebreak, or freaked out and filmed the opposite management. I could make a fifty hr video of how many ways it missed me.

It was artistic
Sometimes it would picture show 50 yards to my correct.... when I surfed, it zoomed forth ahead of me.... sometimes I would catch it.

My favorite:
Follow me perfectly as I paddled about
I'd grab a moving ridge and surf out of frame, as information technology froze in place.
the photographic camera stared at where I caught the wave for 6-8 seconds, and so it would race over to find me.
I'd surf out of the frame once more.... repeat
on a long indicate moving ridge information technology would do that five times
How practice you suit for that?

I have used all the "technical know-how and skill" that I have and this thing flat out refuses to work.
(well, it did work for a few sessions.... and so all the residue at the exact same spot would fail)

EXCEPT if:
- the waves are tiny
- I am paddling flat-h2o
- testing
then information technology is perfect

I more neglect and it goes back for replacement.

Cheers Rick!  Homo y'all're saga sounds super frustrating, I admire your conclusion.  Sounds similar something is upwardly with your soloshot.

Couple ideas, might be faster than returning or at to the lowest degree let you know for sure your unit is malfunctioning.  Maybe try hooking upward with Marc or another SS user and exercise a side past side test?  Or guild anothee SS from Amazon or b&h and try side past side,  then return it.  Might give proof for contacting support?

I adore and am appreciative of the effort you guys put in to doing videos. Massive fourth dimension suck...I just don't have it.

Stoney:  "massive time suck"...it definitely tin can be.  For me, I commonly quickly scroll through my ane.5-two hour session footage in almost twenty minutes or so and save only the rides that I tin see my foot placement and wave location in order to endeavor to learn what I'grand doing right/wrong - the balance goes right in my computer trash then as not to clog my machine upwardly.  The camera (to me) has an added do good of being able to capture still's which can be really kinda absurd.  Here's a pic from this am w/ me and PDLSRF sharing a wave.  I had my setting on "water/medium" in an effort to come across if I could catch some footage of Derek then I'll probably go through today's vid a bit slower to see if there are whatever nuggets.

Any who hah.....

Yeah cookie! Truth be told I thought you might exist some possessed wizard with voodoo ability over the SS3!  I didn't understand how you liked and evangelized soloshot.  Now I become it!

lol...I've had my fair share of fails besides! But don't forget that I've been w/SS since the get-go Kickstarter dorsum in summertime 2012 and so my fidelity w/them is stiff. Especially since they have been actually good to me in so many means. My first calibration and pairing on the original SS back and then was a full fail westward/me being out of frame for 2 hrs of video!

Thank yous Clay,
Swell videos and good to hear that you are at present getting consistent results.
I have had a lot of missed sessions too and I'm thinking it could exist 'cause I clamp the camera to an aluminum runway (should not cause magnetic interference though?).  It's as well elevated, and then I'll effort your tip initializing at water level and and so calibrating up higher.
That large metallic chain does non crusade interference?  The external battery you use is a good setup too.
I had a saucepan housing simply gave up on it likewise, because it gets in the style of the camera when tried to recalibrate while zoomed.
overnice work!

Thanks Clay,
Great videos and good to hear that you are now getting consistent results.
I have had a lot of missed sessions as well and I'm thinking it could be 'cause I clamp the camera to an aluminum rail (should not cause magnetic interference though?).  It'south as well elevated, and so I'll try your tip initializing at water level and then calibrating upward higher.
That large metal chain does not cause interference?  The external battery you use is a good setup likewise.
I had a saucepan housing merely gave up on it too, because it gets in the way of the photographic camera when tried to recalibrate while zoomed.
squeamish work!

Thank you Robert.
Yeah elevation was causing poor results for me consistently until I started initializing near sea level.  I have had bug when I setup the base of operations near concrete or rebar, so maybe the rebar in the concrete is the problem???  Soloshot support told me something like a chain link fence shouldn't exist an issue, merely something like a solid metal roof on a bathroom structure is.
I have been using that metal chain for a dozen or more sessions and no interference that I can notice, I also asked support about this and they said information technology is all proficient.  I hope this helps.
